Dogs on the Beaches

Always clean up after your pet. The laws below do not apply to assist dogs.

Corolla

Dogs are allowed on beach year round, but they must be on a leash.

Duck

Dogs are allowed on beach year round, but they must be under the watch and control of their owners.

Southern Shores

Dogs are not allowed on beach from May 15 to September 15. At other times of year, dogs are allowed on the beach with a leash.

Kitty Hawk

Dogs are allowed on beach year round. From the Friday before Memorial Day until the day after Labor Day between the hours of 10 am and 6 pm, dogs must be on a leash not exceeding 6 feet. At other times of year, dogs must be on a leash at least 12 feet long. Dogs may be taken off their leashes only if they will not disturb others. Handlers must have a leash at all times and be within 30 feet of their pets at all times.

Kill Devil Hills

Between May 15 and September 15, dogs are not allowed on the beach between the hours of 9 am and 6 pm. Otherwise, dogs are allowed on the beach year round as long as they are on a leash and under control of a handler.

Nags Head

Dogs are allowed on beach year round, but they must be on a leash no longer than 10 feet and under the control of their owner at all times.

Cape Hatteras National Seashore

Dogs are allowed on the beach year round, but they must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet at all times.
