Come hear that old familiar twang, in the tradition of Bill Monroe, Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs and so many other legendary performers. Come hear today’s Bluegrass stars, such as Rhonda Vincent, The Grascals, Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out, Doyle Lawson, Dailey & Vincent and dozens more picking their strings outside, under crisp October skies. We’re bringing ’em in from all over the country for three days of down home cookin’ and good ole Southern pickin’. Join us for a fun filled family weekend with the music of our roots, the music of our grandfathers, the music of America – Bluegrass!
Preview day on Thursday, October 3 features the movie that skyrocketed the popularity of bluegrass music, “O Brother, Where Art Thou”. The movie starts at 7:00 pm and is free at Roanoke Island Festival Park indoor theater; plus, there will be a jam session following the movie. At 8:00 pm, listen to a free performance by the Wayfarers at Poor Richard’s in downtown Manteo.
Sixth Annual Lobster Fest

Tickets: $25 for full lobster or alternative dinner, $15 lobster only; order tickets ahead of time until 5:00 pm on October 2
Enjoy a steamed lobster dinner complete with baked potato, salad, a beverage and dessert. Alternative dinners available for those who do not want lobster. To go lobster is $15 for a lobster only or $25 for a full lobster dinner or alternative dinner. Pick up time for to go orders is 3:00-6:00 pm. Live entertainment. Seating times are 5:00 and 7:00 pm. Call ahead for group seating. A portion of proceeds benefit community charities.
Island Farm’s Pumpkin Patch
Saturdays, October 5 through October 26, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Admission: $6; children ages 5 and under are free. Take home a pumpkin for an additional $4.
Come to the farm, take an ox-drawn wagon ride to the farm’s pumpkin patch and find your perfect pumpkin to take home. Other activities: make your own corn husk doll, candle making, children’s 19th-century toys and games, stuff a scarecrow, scarecrow photo booth for taking your own photos, and interacting with the farms animals. On the last day of this event, October 26th, wear your Halloween costume and receive a surprise. Wagon hay rides take place from 10:30 am-12:30 pm and again 1:30-3:30 pm.

Our home selections feature new designs and many incorporate new technologies, products and best building practices. Ticket proceeds support the Outer Banks Food Pantry and other local charities.
Book Sale to Benefit Literacy

The Dare Literacy Council’s bi-annual fundraising event is a staple on the Outer Banks. Choose from thousands and thousands of books ranging from 50¢ to $5.00. Books are sorted by category and there is something for every age and every interest. You’ll find fiction, non-fiction, history, business, biographies, cookbooks, art books, books on spirituality, kids’ books, puzzles, audiobooks, videos, CDs, LPs and more. Proceeds benefit local literacy programs in Dare County and areas of Currituck County and help the Dare Literacy Council buy workbooks for their students.
First Flight Rotary’s Oink n’ Oyster Roast

This annual community benefit offers steamed oysters and NC style Barbeque with all the sides. Funds raised support various non-profit organizations in Dare County. The First Flight Marching Band, whose members volunteer at the event and provide musical selections, also receives a portion of the proceeds.
7th Annual Duck Jazz Festival

This festival showcases national, regional, and local jazz musicians, including The Delfeayo Marsalis Octet, Lavay Smith & Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers, Peter Lamb and The Wolves. Attendees are welcome to brings chairs, food, coolers, blankets and pets. No beach umbrellas or tents are permitted at the event. Food and drinks will be available to purchase from various town eateries and chairs to rent.
